eCommerce

What is eCommerce?

eCommerce is the ability to sell products directly from your website.

Online shopping has become very common in recent times, but there are many companies losing out by not offering this facility. Even if you don't want a full online shop, a catalogue giving details of your products can often generate extra sales by allowing people to see exactly what you sell.

What does it consist of?

An eCommerce site consists of several key parts :

Catalogue display
The catalogue will display all the products available for sale, divided up into relevant categories to aid navigation. This part of the site can often make the difference between gaining or losing a sale. The more information you can give the user, the better.
Shopping basket
The shopping basket holds the products that the user wants to buy. Clicking on a 'buy' button next to the product will add it to the basket.
Checkout
When the user has finished shopping, they go to the checkout. This is where they enter their details, and make payment. For small to medium companies, the payment will normally be done through a handling company such as Protx or PayPal.
Database management system
For the shop to work properly, the site owner must be able to make changes to the catalogue, e.g. add/remove products, change prices, view/edit/manage customer information and orders. A management system to do this is included with every eCommerce solution from us.
